Gracelet was born in Johor Bahru and raised in
Singapore. She completed her secondary education
in Bangalore. She was married to David Rajaram on
December 29, 1952 and lived in Singapore from 1952 to 1959.
Her husband predeceased her on December 2,
2014, at age 88, after 62 years of marriage.
Her early childhood was interrupted by
the Japanese occupation of Malaysia and Singapore,
where she learnt life skills that
served her the rest of her life.
Some of the stories were scary and the family survived in
God’s providence. She was ahead of her time and in 1959-1960,
was one of only two
foreign students in the University of Birmingham.
Mummy was resilient and adaptable. After our return to Malaysia,
the family had to move every three years (Taiping and Malacca)
due to my father job. Ultimately, they
settled in Petaling Jaya from 1969 to present.
Mummy worked in various schools as
an English literature teacher until the 1980s,
and in later life enjoyed crafts, including
copper tooling, embroidery and pottery.
She was dedicated and protective of her
family. She leaves behind many friends who loved her,
and her children, grandchildren
and great grandchildren. Mummy we love you and will
meet you and papa again in
