Rainer Rotthoff, the kindest of men, the gentlest of souls, passed away on Monday 14th March, 2022. He was 72 and had called Malaysia home for over 3 decades. Although born in Essen, Germany, Rainer has worked as a nurse, often voluntarily in Switzerland, Malaysia and Laos. In Malaysia, he was a founding member of the IKHLAS Program, providing lifesaving medical care to street-based people who used drugs and sex workers in Chow Kit. He went on to create homes for people living with HIV and support refugees in the Southeast Asia Region. Rainer dedicated his life to community service with the staunch belief that it was his calling in life. He was able to look beyond race, nationality and borders as he served on the causes he believed in. He was truly loved by all who were lucky to have come in contact with him.
Rainer’s funeral will be held this Saturday 19th March 2022 at 10.30am at the St Mary’s Cathedral, Jalan Raja, Kuala Lumpur, and thereafter, cremation at Gui Yuan Crematorium, Kg Tunku, Petaling Jaya. Friends and family are invited to pay their final respects on Friday 18 th March 2022 at Jinjang Funeral Parlour (Hall 8), Lot 182, Jalan Jambu Arang 2, Jinjang Selatan, 52000 Kuala Lumpur. Flowers and/or candles can be sent to Jinjang Funeral Parlour (Hall 8) on Friday, 18 th March 2022.
