obituary
“It is the heartbeat of a mother that gives a child its first rhythm…
She is the architecture of our souls.”
Our grandmother, mother, wife and sister, our Kalpana, passed peacefully at home on Friday, 20th February 2026.
She leaves behind her sisters, brothers, friends and the family she nurtured and devoted herself to all her life;
Pulendran Ponniah
Her sons and daughters-in-law.
Raj Ponniah & Radhika Menon
Ravin Ponniah & Roshni Menon
Rohen Ponniah & Sandhya Nair
Rishy Ponniah & April Cortez
And the lights of her life, her grandchildren.
Rahul, Ria, James, Reina, Maya, Krishant, Akshay & Sanjay Ponniah.
Kalpana lived a life defined by quiet constancy and boundless love. Her strength was clear and yet gentle, her generosity instinctive, and her presence a reassurance for all who knew her.
At the heart of her life was family. Love, for her, was not proclaimed but practiced daily - in patient listening, in small kindnesses and “in little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love”.
Though we will all miss her so very much, we are grateful for her life, and that we had a part in it - a life of dignity, grace, and enduring devotion. Her light remains in the hearts of those she loved.
We welcome everyone who knew her to come together with her family;
The Wake will be on Sunday 22 February from 8:00am onwards (with prayers from 12noon – 2:00pm) at the Majestic Hall 03, Level 3, Nirvana 2, 16, Jalan Dewan Bahasa, Bukit Seputeh, 50460 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur.
Cortege will leave Nirvana 2 at 2:30pm on Sunday, 22 February for Cremation at Nirvana Memorial Park (Shah Alam), Taman Perkuburan, Jalan Pusaka 21/1, Off Persiaran Jubli Perak, Section 21, 40300 Shah Alam, Selangor.
On love that endures beyond death: “The song is ended, but the melody lingers on.”
And a reminder that her life will be measured not in years alone,
but in depth of love and lived experience.
“The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough.”
