Born on 17 Jun 1945 in Penang to immigrants from Foochow and Guangzhou, Dr Teoh grew up in humble
surroundings and was educated at Penang’s Free School. He worked hard and earned a scholarship under the
British Colombo Plan 1965 to study medicine at Grant College, Bombay, where he served as Chairman of the
Malaysia Student Association for India. After graduating, he served at several government hospitals and lectured
at University Hospital, where he qualified as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. In 1979, he moved to Ipoh and
practised at the Ipoh KPJ in a lifelong partnership with Dr Nagara and Dr Adlan.
Dr Teoh was a go getter, highly energetic and passionate person, being involved with ASH (Action on Smoking
and Health) in the early 80s until he came to know Jesus in the late 80s. Thereafter, his passion for the Lord grew
and he served as a lay priest in St Peters Church, Ipoh, and the Orang Asli ministry of the Anglican diocese.
He was recognised and given the title of Canon Emeritus.
An avid reader and writer, Dr Teoh has penned several newspaper articles, books, biographies and songs. His
favourite singer is the Elvis, the King of Rock and Roll and he started to learn to play the piano the last 5 years.
Clearly, he lived a full and blessed life.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Dr Teoh’s life:
Wake: no.14, Jalan Hussein Nordin, 31400 Ipoh at 8pm on 2nd, 3rd and 4th August 2023
Funeral service: St Peters Church, Ipoh at 10.30am on 5th August 2023
In his typical fashion, Dr Teoh has requested family and friends to not send any memorial flowers or plaques, and
that any memorial contributions be donated to charity.
