Beloved husband of the late Sosamma Chacko (Matron George who worked at the Lady Templer Hospital, Cheras), loving father to Sarah (Omana) and Mathew Jacob, Anne and Susanna (Anisha), and devoted grandfather to Tessa and Edward, Jacob, Sosha, Mariam, Gian Sandosh and Giorgio Anand.  Born in Aiyoor to Saramma and Verghese Cherian, he has two living sisters, Mariamma Thomas and Annamma Abraham and is the beloved uncle of his siblings’ and cousins’ many children and grandchildren.

George (Thamby) spent the first 5 years of his career in Bombay doing English translations and insurance. During this time, he got himself a Diploma in Accounting and then decided to migrate to Malaya. George arrived in Malaya on 26th January 1952 and spent a major part of his working life in Guthries Group Ltd. He and Sosamma (Kunjamma, Manoor House, Mangalam) were married in 1957 and celebrated 55 years of family life before Sosamma’s passing in 2013. 

George always lived his life king size. His effervescent character endeared him to many, who stayed loyal friends. He and Sosamma generously opened their home and hearts to people of all cultures and beliefs, and enjoyed many enduring friendships. They went out of their way to serve those around them, in their times of need. George was devoted to the Orthodox Syrian Church and the Word of God, which he read till the very end. 

He treasured his books and comics. He cherished his cat and dog. 

He doted on his grandkids. He adored his Saviour and Lord. 

His zest for life, wit and sense of humor was infectious and will be deeply missed.
