To the Best Father Ever
Morning you pluck softly the freshest scented sprig
Ever the romantic, you knew well such matters
Daily wooing Ma with tricolour Kiss Me Quick and love letters
Afternoon that dear voice rings in the big old house, “I’m back!”
From the worn office briefcase emerges a pancake snack.
Evening evokes memories of our jaunty walks from gate to gate
Regaling your family with news of the day, voice so clear.
Nights are tender, you sing us to sleep with the sweetest tunes,
Love songs even now we hum when we are full of cheer!
Looking back we treasure memories of a family life so rare
Dearest Pa, while on earth you lavished such love and care,
You and Ma surely still watch over us from over there! - CK
