Kock Seng Chee, 72, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, went home to the Lord on the morning of June 13, 2022. Born in Parit Buntar, Perak, Malaysia, Kock Seng was a true citizen of the world. Living on three different continents across the span of his life, he extended the grace and love of God to everyone he met, engaging in each conversation with deep curiosity and interest.
His adventurous spirit, persistent optimism, and contagious smile always reflected his consistent focus on people and connection across the globe. Kock Seng handled his diagnosis of Multiple System Atrophy with joy, kindness, and resilience until the end. He is preceded in death by his father, Chee Ah Kong, mother-in-law, Jessica D. Kuizema, and brother-in-law, Goh Simon, and is survived by his 104-year-old mother, Chan Yoke-Eng, his 97-year-old father-in-law, Harold J. Kuizema, his wife of almost thirty years, Joan Kuizema Chee, his daughters, Jessica Yoke-eng Chee and Carole Yoke-kew Chee, his brothers, CheeAh Chai (Susan), Chee Sai Chai (Nancy), Chee Ong Koh (Suan Phaik), his sister, Chee Gladys, half-sister, Chee Foong-Kin (Kenny), and siblings-in-law Diane (Mark) DeHaan, Ellen (Norm) Thomasma, and Carole (Albert) Valk. He also leaves behind sixteen nieces and nephews and twenty-two great-nieces and -nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Malaysia at the end of the year when Kock Seng’s immediate family is able to travel in from Michigan.
