They say grief will pass, they say grief
will fade. It changes form but it’s never
gone. They say that time heals all. Those
sayings are of little comfort, for now.
So hang in there, my dearest mummy,
together we'll see this through.
Isabelle owed her success in
life to her belief in carpe diem.
Our mother may no longer be with us, but when we look at ourselves, her very image, will live and be seen through us. I wish it could be said, that our mother’s final months of life, were easy. However, the truth is, anyone who knew her, witnessed a tough woman who bravely battled cancer and never let the illness bring her spirit down. The strength and endurance we have and will always have, is because
of her.
Isabelle Lalita Balashanmugam, better known as “Mummy” to us, departed her loving family on 13th March, 2022.
Born to Balashanmugam and Beatrice on 12th November, 1965, she was an obedient daughter and loving sibling. She was a doting and proud mother to us, her twin daughters Dalehny & Delahny, since 1997. She was our number one cheerleader, and raised us with tough love and adoration alongside her husband, Deivendran.
Isabelle is survived by her loving mother Beatrice, brother Ronald Shanker, sister Anita Shereen, their spouses and sisters-in-law Kasthuri, Loshini and Tharma.
As a teacher at SMK Assunta, PJ, Isabelle (M.Ed UM) was known for her dedication towards her students and by their testament, made a notable difference in all their lives and was a mother to them all. As a proud Past President of the Rotary Club, she was always looking forward to her weekly meetings and ways to participate in multiple charitable events like the polio immunization campaign in India and
The Leg for the Legless initiative in Sri Lanka. For her vast contributions, she was awarded the Rotary International Presidential Citation Award. Through Rotary she made some great friends, some of whom were her pillars of support, especially throughout her fight with cancer. She was also an ardent gardener involved in multiple communities of plant lovers like herself, constantly buying and exchanging
plants. Just as she sowed the seeds in her garden at home, she planted wisdom and showered support to her students, fellow teachers, fellow Rotarians, friends and family.
As we read the flood of messages from the past few days, we wanted to shine light on some of the terms used to describe our mother. She was a woman of vigour, zest and passion. She possessed dedication, generosity and love. She was bubbly and an extrovert and always knew how to have fun. She was a fighter and took charge when things got challenging. Most importantly, she was beautiful, both inside and out. It truly warms our hearts to hear the many lives she has touched in her lifetime.
She will be remembered forever and her legacy will continue through us, her babies.
As Isabelle would have wanted, in lieu of flowers, donations to any church on her name will be very much appreciated.
